PHP Software Developer (Backend)

We combine energy and climate change, air quality, resource efficiency, sustainable transport and chemical risk expertise with our strong IT capability. We've got some ambitious growth plans and we're looking for a talented software developer with a strong database development and administration background to join our team.

The role will involve building and supporting software for Ricardo-AEA's public and private sector clients. You will be working on multiple projects at the same time, typically supporting and enhancing existing applications whilst new projects are in development. Therefore, you will need to demonstrate excellent organisational skills. The successful candidate will be used to working with project managers and a team of developers to set briefs that successfully deliver requirements.

Essential:

- Experience of building effective dynamic software in a commercial environment
- Experience handling, manipulating and disseminating large data sets
- Experience of working with PHP5, MVC frameworks,
- Experience building data centric solutions with MySQL, PHP5,Javascript, XML,
- Experience of working with versioning systems (Git)
- Experience developing and optimizing database schemas

Desirable:

- Java, , PERL, R
- MVC (prefer Zend) Framework
- Web Map Service and Web Feature Service
- Exposure to Government IT Standards
- Experience working with the Atlassian suite of developer tools would be a distinct advantage

- Happy to accept and provide guidance and instruction when needed
- Good general communication skills
- Able to learn new technologies quickly
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work

Qualifications:

- IT or computer science degree is desirable
