IT Operations manages the IT infrastructure and supporting services that are critical for HSBC employees and customers, such as cost-efficient hardware, system software, Middleware and databases, data centres, voice and data networks, ATMs, desktops and other devices.

It employs around 8,500 employees globally and comprises five functions: Client Services, Enterprise Services and Architecture, Data Centre and Service Management, Relationship Management, Project Management and PMO, and Risk and Administration. Collectively, these areas define and deliver HSBC's technology strategy to support the Group's goals.

Unix Project Delivery is one of 5 Unix teams in IT Operations. There is great scope for progression, with team members advancing in to Solutions Architect and Project Management roles etc. To help you develop there is regular training to keep the team up to date with leading technologies such as Redhat, Solaris and Veritas. Also with scope to gain ITIL certification.

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Senior Unix Systems Administrator.

In this role, you will:

• Be responsible for supporting the mid-range server for a key part of the bank.
• Provide Incident, Problem and Change management alongside pro-active and trend analysis of the IT Infrastructure
• Help provide high level Unix support for over 4500 Unix/Linux hosts for the Retail and Global Banking and Markets divisions of HSBC.
• Run detailed root cause problem investigation and resolution to the Unix and Linux estate in order to reduce repeat issues and increase stability.
• Provide technical expertise into growth and development of the server estate
• Interface with the various other infrastructure teams within the bank.

Please note that this role will be referred to internally as Technical Specialist.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

• Essential knowledge of one or more of the following Redhat, Veritas (HA and VCS), Solaris 10 and 11, Scripting (ideally Perl)
• Some understanding of - SLES 11Storage (EMC SAN and NAS), Networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS/QIP, F5/GSS)
• Ideally worked in Cross site, large scale Unix environments.
• Have the ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.
• Extensive experience as a Unix Systems Administrator
