The primary role of the senior buyer is to ensure that materials procurement is in line with the customer specifications as detailed on Bill of Materials whilst achieving the required lead times to allow satisfactory shipment of product to customer on time and to cost. Key areas of ownership include process compliance, documentation & development of all aspects of the purchasing functions. The nature of the business is a mix of repeat orders and new projects with the key variable, material lead times. The position will require attendance at meetings representing the department and deputising for the Purchasing Manager.

Main Responsibilities:

Procurement
*To work closely with suppliers to ensure all goods are received in the correct format, within the required timescales and to required quality
*To ensure stock levels are kept to an optimum level
*To manage and improve supplier payment terms and conditions.
*To be responsible for enhancing the P&L of individual jobs, through correct purchase order loading on Clarion database
*To assist the materials expediter in managing the purchase order book in accordance with supplier commitments and company expectations
*To ensure all invoice queries are closed down in a timely and satisfactory manner
*To assist stores with any queries in goods receipt and ensure outstanding issues are closed down in a timely manner
*Development of high level relationships with all key suppliers to maximise all business opportunities
*Develop understanding of organisational structures of all suppliers, their working practices and service offerings
*Provide accurate kit clear dates to production and help to schedule required kits in line with customer requirements and receipt of components within customers required timescales
*Participate in operational meetings and address any issues related to the company customer base.
*Bring any component queries to the attention of the Business Units and ensure such concerns are addressed by relevant parties
*Provide support to designated customers as required
*Develop understanding of all the company's customers, their markets and their historical & forecast performance
*Provide leadership and guidance to other members of the team (Buyer and Trainee Buyer)

Minimum Qualifications/ Experience Required:
*Basic knowledge of electronic components
*Basic understanding of manufacturing environment
*Experience of Microsoft products including Excel & Word
*Experience of using ERP systems and databases
*Previous experience in a similar role desirable
*Demonstrable experience of managing multiple projects
*CIPS membership or be working towards; or prepared to undertake study.
