Salary competitive depending on experience

Keeping the web safe for users throughout the world is our mission and we're looking for talented people to help us achieve it. Smoothwall is a market leader in Internet filtering and security, founded in Southampton, and with almost 15 years’ experience in developing a successful product worldwide for the corporate, education and public sectors.

We meet new challenges daily and have a responsibility to accurately deal with web threats before anyone else can. We're constantly predicting, reacting to, and developing around the ever-evolving web, and creating innovative security technologies. If you have a desire to succeed in a fast-moving, collaborative agile development environment we'd really love to hear from you.

The role

We're looking for a Product Owner to join our Product Management team in our Southampton office. This is an excellent opportunity to make a big impact in a growing organisation and the end results of your contributions will be seen across our product range by a global customer base.

Smoothwall’s Product Management Team sets and communicates clear strategic and tactical direction for our products - it ensures that we focus on the areas that provide most benefit to our customers and therefore our business.

As a product owner, your role will be complex and multi-faceted and will require you to immerse yourself in our market and deliver insightful, well-reasoned plans that add value to our products, our customers and our business. You will then be responsible for working with our development teams to deliver your vision. You should expect that 50% of the role will involve liaising externally with customers and company stakeholders with the other 50% focused on supporting the development team.

About you

You will be a fast learner, keen to immerse yourself in Smoothwall’s markets and technologies and will enjoy working with other technical experts in a friendly, informal environment, which values quality, innovation and creativity. This role would ideally suit an existing agile product owner within the networking, security and/or internet area or an experienced network/system implementation engineer (or similar) that wishes to enhance their career within product management

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Technical qualifications and/or hands-on experience in network, security, and web technologies or similar
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to quickly identify client needs
  • The ability to lead from within and deliver successful projects in a timely and effective manner
  • The ability to think outside the box and challenge current processes, and positively influence people at all levels
  • You should be a capable, confident communicator with strong analytical skills

It would be a bonus if you have experience of working in either the education, commercial or government technology sectors or the network and application security technology sectors.

The reward

At Smoothwall we recognise that our employees are the number one reason for our success – we would not have our incredible technology without incredible people behind it! We have a responsibility to keep our people happy and so we offer competitive salaries, an attractive accumulative holiday entitlement which increases with service, flexible working hours, a company pension scheme, life insurance, flexibility for personal development projects, and regular company socials.

If the role of Product Owner sounds exciting to you and you are confident that you can demonstrate the essential skills listed above please apply - we look forward to hearing from you!

No agencies please. You must be eligible to work in the UK.
