PPG are seeking a Data Support Specialist to join their team based in Oxford (home based after 6-12 months). PPG operate in many business sectors, this vacancy is within an established software solutions business unit named Pinetree, operating within the Automotive Refinish market. This is a Full Time and Permanent position offering a salary of up to £45k
As our new Data Support Specialist you will provide key data and operational support services in relation to the Pinetree product range and to maintain and support Pinetree’s data operations including dedicated servers and external system interfaces. It will be your responsibility to maintain the high quality of the Pinetree’s operational performance and to provide excellent technical support, customer service and management information.
Key Responsibilities as our Data Support Specialist include:
- To ensure the operational uptime of Pinetree’s dedicated data servers and associated software products.
- To manage the ongoing security of Pinetree’s data services including operating system updates, security patch updates, anti-virus updates and general maintenance to ensure security is maintained at all times.
- To ensure all Pinetree’s data services have complete Backup, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity mechanisms in place and safeguard the ongoing provision of service.
- Provide support services to the Pinetree team in relation to data queries relating to the Pinetree services. This includes deep data traces from internal and external system and full audit of how data is processed.
- Provide reports to support deep data traces in a format suitable for external consumption.
- Provide data administration services as required including account management, data management, and user management.
- Ensure the ongoing performance of all databases servers relating to Pinetree services including backups, performance monitoring, data archiving and database optimisation.
- Develop, or assist in developing, administration tools to provide self-serve solutions for administration tasks to both Pinetree and its customers.
- Provide a high level of technical assistance to internal and external development and support teams.
- Provide third line support to the Pinetree team and engage in pro-active problem solving necessary to ensure the organisation’s success
- Ensure Pinetree best practices for development are defined and adhered to at all times.
- There is also potential for expanding into software development within this role.
Key Skills & Knowledge required to become our new Data Support Specialist:
- The Data Support Specialist will be interacting with customers and colleagues continually and will require good communication and interpersonal skills and a pleasant and confident telephone manner.
- The Data Support Specialist will be required to use a wide number of tools and skills to achieve the objectives. These include but are not limited to Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, SQL Server 2008/2012/2014, IIS 7.0/7.5, Microsoft FTP Server, SSL Certificate security, Windows Firewall, IP Security, Web Services and a variety of development environments and support tools.
- Development of any self-serve administration tools would require knowledge of C#, MVC and SQL Server although this element is desirable only.
- In order to provide effective service to Pinetree and its customers, the Data Support Specialist will need to attain an excellent understanding of Pinetree’s product range, its customers business practices and the Automotive market in general.
- The Data Support Specialist will need to be able to work under constant pressure and retain good communication skills and a friendly, flexible and helpful attitude to others.
- The Data Support Specialist will also be required to think clearly and logically under pressure and must be well organized with the ability to juggle demands on their time.
- In order to provide satisfactory solutions to problems the Data Support Specialist will need to learn continuously, be tenacious and display an excellent attention to detail and ability to adhere to process under pressure.

The role is based in Oxford but will be home based after initial training so can be applied for from all areas of London. The role is also easily commutable from Swindon, Cheltenham and Reading.
