Thales Air Operations (AOS&S) division are currently recruiting a Product Line Manager based in Templecombe. The Product Line Manager willdefine, develop and own viable products aligned to the AOS&S strategy and customer needs in support of existing and new business opportunities. The Product Line Manager will work with the Air Operations Management team, Thales UK, Business Line, Global Business Units (GBU), existing and potential customers to lead the evolution and creation of products which meet the customers' needs and budget aspirations and which deliver profitable business.

Key Responsibilities:
The Product Line Manager (PLM) will be responsible for the whole life cycle of AOS&S products, from concept to withdrawal:-
The PLM will maintain a clear understanding of the world market, customer needs and trends, competition (strategy, products, competitiveness) using marketing data and business intelligence; the PLM will be expected to have a high degree of engagement with customers, industrial partners and competitors.
The PLM will deliver the best response to market expectations, strategic directives, technical capabilities and funding capacity.
The PLM will prepare and presents Products Plans and Business Cases for authorisation at Decision Reviews.
The PLM will then own and manage the resulting action plans.According to return on investment, the PLM will propose the SFRD/CFRD allocation which is approved during bid gates and Decision Reviews.
The PLM will support the sales team in identifying and developing routes to market for the AOS&S products, in conjunction with industrial partners, Key Account Managers and Country Directors
The PLM will support the sales and bid managers in the pre-capture, capture, tender building and Gate preparation, assuring tender compliance to Product Policy.
The PLM will support the AOS&S Strategic Solutions Architect to create the products needed
for future business opportunities.
The PLM will actively work with the DAPL and Project Manager(s)/Engineering Teams responsible for
Product development to guarantee Product suitability for customer expectations and AOS&S profitability goals. The PLM will validate the user requirements specifications, participate in progress meetings
and certify Product acceptance.
The PLM will actively work with Thales commercial and export control teams to ensure that appropriate
legal protection is in place with industrial partners and that the products can be marketed and sold overseas.
The PLM will coordinate and validate the production of sales kit and support the product promotion and marketing activities, including planning and support for exhibitions and trade shows.
Implementation and effectiveness of Product Policy will be controlled and monitored by the PLM, in particular the commitments of Product profitability and Return on Investment.
The PLM will liaise with BLs to ensure alignment with GBU product policy and will contribute to the Thales Strategic Business Planning process and preparation of the Multi Year Budget.
The PLM will support the Head of Technical to ensure technology readiness for the product line.
The PLM will support the Operations Management Team to promote continuous improvement in the elaboration of product policy in line with Thales processes. The PLM will support Quality Assurance accreditationactivities including performing the role of Local Process Correspondent for Thales Manage Product Policy processes.
The PLM will support the AOS&S Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process through chairing monthly Product Reviews.
Skills:
Pro-active approach to engagement with key internal and external stakeholders. This will include UK and international travel; it should be assumed there will be a >25% travel requirement.
Excellent Customer/Industrial Partner relationship skills.
Good negotiator with clear understanding of the business needs and priorities.
Excellent interpersonal/verbal/written/presentation communications skills for stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
Strategic thinker and innovator who is able to develop concepts into a coherent business case.
Understanding software technology, systems and technology trends related to distributed military information systems.

Experience:

Significant experience in market analysis and business development/sales for defence market
Track record in management and development of profitable software products.
Track record in creating superior solutions through industrial partnerships
Experience in collaborative working across financial, technical,
engineering and commercial, both as team player and leader.
Track record in developing profitable business plans
Desirable
Knowledge of Tactical and/or ISR Data Links, including Link 16, Link 22 and CDL.
Knowledge of UK and export defence acquisition strategy and processes
Understanding of other market sectors such as air traffic management,
civil air operations, land and maritime information systems.
