As part of our expert systems engineering team, you will deliver an immensely complex project in a uniquely challenging environment. The Control Centre Systems Engineer (Requirements Lead) will manage the systems engineering process for defined work packages and will provide line management and technical leadership to Systems Engineers. This position will play a vital role in setting up the requirements database and leading the requirements analysis and Verification &Validation plan.

Key responsibilities:

Defining and preparing system and subsystem requirement specifications, ensuring design, interface and test feasibility through detailed analysis, simulation and decomposition modelling

Writing and executing test specifications

Using a variety of toolsets to convert requirements into conceptual designs, both by creating new concepts and modifying existing ones

Thoroughly preparing design documentation by performing operational analysis, simulations and technical trade-off studies to evaluate alternative design configurations and functional features

Working collaboratively with internal and external teams to meet deadlines whilst ensuring the quality of the work packages and processes that fall within your remit

Developing, implementing, maintaining and assessing systems engineering tools

Working on your own initiative to investigate and resolve problems at your desk and in the field

Supervising and coaching staff, and direct them on priorities

Keeping up to date with the latest technical developments within Thales and the wider engineering sector.

Skills, qualifications and experience:

Practical experience of delivering in a systems engineering environment, together with the initiative and innovative mindset needed to resolve new and unusual technical issues and conflicts

Previous control centre background with communications equipment

Membership of the IET in addition to a relevant degree in Engineering or equivalent

A good understanding of the development life cycle and associated products, preferably gained in a rail environment

A good understanding of technology and their interfaces associated with Operational Communications, COTS hardware including but not limited to Telephony, LAN, CCTV, SCADA and Control system software

A proven ability to manage a project through a defined process as well as a knowledge of configuration control management

Confidence using a range of IT and system engineering tools and a working knowledge of project plans, engineering safety management and construction, design and management regulations

A genuine commitment to safety and customer interests, and an understanding of the importance of producing quality control metrics

Strong interpersonal and team working abilities, plus the credibility and communication skills to engage people at all levels

Self-motivation and the ability to deliver under pressure in addition to a commitment to sharing learning across the Thales engineering community.
