Combat threats to UK security with your tenacity and technological expertise
GCHQ works to keep Britain safe and secure in the face of wide-ranging threats from cyberspace and emerging technologies. In support of our mission, we work with some of the country's most complex and powerful computing and processing estates. But, as well as deploying cutting-edge technologies, we also support some critical infrastructure that is decades old.
This means we have wide-ranging roles that involve deep technical second and third level support, network design and implementation -- or IT solution architecture and design. We are looking for technical people to develop and support GCHQ's IT infrastructure. Our estate is large and complex, with plenty of opportunity for you to become expert in your chosen field. It will also expose you to other opportunities; such is the breadth and scope of the work. We stay up to date and work closely with our vendors and their developers; not just to understand the technology of the future, but also to guide and influence its development. GCHQ is an exciting and interesting place to work.
Whatever projects you're involved in, you are guaranteed challenging, cutting-edge work that will stretch your abilities, strengthen your skills and expand your knowledge. And, you'll be playing a valuable role in protecting the nation.
Requirements
• You will need to have or expect to achieve a relevant degree e.g. Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths. Or you need knowledge and experience in at least ONE of the following areas:
Operating systems / Networking Storage and processing infrastructure / IT applications / Desktop infrastructure / Data centre management / System Administration / Databases/data warehousing IT Infrastructure / Knowledge of IT vendors/ IT Infrastructure
• We have a broad set of technical interests that cover:
Operating systems (Linux and Windows), virtualisation, proxies, automation and enterprise management tools, identity and access management tools (PKI and Active Directory), enterprise security products and their associated analytics (such as Arcsight).
• You should also be a persistent, resilient, methodical professional with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving. You will also be adept at assessing information, making recommendations, and communicating with others.
You could be a part of this. We don't expect anybody to be skilled in all of the above, but if you have some experience in two or more of them then get in touch. We have an extensive training and certification programme, so if you have the aptitude then we'll give you all the training and experience that you need.
Although most positions are full-time, GCHQ values a diverse workforce and has staff working a variety of working patterns including part-time, compressed hours and job-share.
