User Experience Designer – UX for Software Applications – Music/Film/TV - London

Salary: Maximum £40,000 plus discretionary bonus and benefits package.

Location: Near Euston and King’s Cross, London

THE COMPANY:

Consistent expansion for the world leader in the provision of software solutions to the Music and Entertainment industry has given rise to the need for a creative User Experience (UX) Designer: We mean structuring a system, architecting site maps, data flows, process flows, workflows etc. as opposed to solely graphical work.

The working environment here is very pleasant with a casual dress code, laid back and friendly atmosphere, but also hard-working and dynamic with the autonomy to drive your job role forward. This is predominantly a UX design role, but if you also have User Interface (UI) design skills or a previous background in graphics, that would be advantageous.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The experience required for this role is as follows:

  • A minimum of 3 years of commercial experience in UX (User Experience) design
  • Proficiency in designing simple user experiences to solve complex business problems
  • Experience creating wireframes; high-fidelity and low-fidelity prototypes
  • Experience in Wireframe and Visual Design software (for example Axure, Balsamiq, etc.)
  • Experience in the research and generation of user personas, user scenarios and user journeys/stories
  • Experience in translating user testing results into design decisions
  • Knowledge of usability patterns, information architecture principles and their application
  • Strong knowledge of both web and mobile technologies
  • Good communication skills, both spoken and written to the standard required for producing professional documentation

Please note the above experience is essential. You require all of the above experience in order for to be eligible for this role.

The following experience is desirable, though not essential:

  • Experience in designing mobile applications
  • Background in User Interface (UI) Design or Graphic work
  • Experience in visual design tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator

THE ROLE:

We are looking for a User Experience (UX) Designer, preferably with some previous User Interface/Graphics Design background, to work with product strategy consultants, business analysts, users and clients to convert specifications, feedback and requirements into interfaces and user interactions.

A good profile would be someone who started as a UI designer and progressed into a pure UX role, someone who knows what it takes to interview users for their needs, specifications and requirements and can put together appealing and usable UX deigns and then eventually communicate to the technical staff what they need to deliver it.

TERMINOLOGY/CLARIFICATION:

Those who possess this experience will understand precisely what we’re describing above. For those reading this who may be puzzled or not entirely clear as to the distinction between UX and UI, here follows some clarification:

UI: User Interface: The graphical, creative, visual “arty” side, designing the icons, choosing the colours, akin to a graphic designer.

UX: User Experience: More technical and architecture-biased as opposed to graphical. This is about system structure, site maps, data flows, process flows, workflows.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Why work here? You are coming into a team that has established practices and methodologies but it is still new enough and small enough that you can make your own mark on it. As for prospects, you will be able to grow into a more senior role within the User Experience team as this is a small team and therefore there is opportunity for growth.

Overall, this is a lovely place to work - it's a privately-owned company and feels more like a family company, not at all institutionalised - everyone has a stake, everyone has a say. Being music, entertainment and film it's an interesting industry to work in too, with a wide range of clients both local and foreign.

PLEASE NOTE:

The client has specifically asked that applicants for this role submit their portfolio along with their CV (or at least a link to it). This will also be an excellent way of telling who actually READ this advertisement before applying for the job it represents! Please be aware that it will look very negative indeed if your CV turns up without an accompanying portfolio, because it will give the impression you applied for a job without even reading the advertisement first!
