The Low Voltage Design Engineer will be responsible for managing the delivery of the Low Voltage (LV) design of a large re-signalling scheme on the London Underground network. The successful candidate will maintain technical oversight and ownership of the LV design and liaise with different disciplines to ensure alignment between all designs and implementation teams.

Key responsibilities

Managing the low voltage power design for a multiple site rail signalling contract

Acting as a design team leader, reviewing and authorising low voltage designs to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practice

Interfacing with other disciplines and liaising with the customer and the implementation team

Producing and managing the production of clear, mistake-proof LV designs for customer approval and for the installation team

Visiting sites and carrying out surveys to enable the production of robust designs and ensure smooth installation

Having a technical ownership of the low voltage design and undertaking the role of designer as defined in Construction Design & Management (CDM) regulations

Scoping, producing and issuing work packages to internal and external low voltage design teams.

Skills, experience and qualifications

Previous experience with 230Vac and 400Vac systems and a good understating of CDM regulations

A strong ability to produce and manage complex designs

Experience working on railway infrastructure would be advantageous, but is not essential

Experience with uninterruptable power supplies

A good understanding of the engineering life cycle and its processes

Good communication and leadership

Confidence using relevant design tools such as CAD packages (preferably Bentley Microstation) and electrical design packages such as Amtech or Hevacomp.
