Portfolio Manager/Senior Project Manager

The role will include:

  • End to End Delivery of one of the key workstreams of the programme
  • Shaping the entire Project Business case.
  • Deputising when required for the Programme Delivery Lead
  • Working with project managers, Sponsor, Comms Exec Manager and Delivery Lead to ensure a full and comprehensive programme plan is in place and critical path elements identified
  • Ensuring that programme level risks, issues and dependencies are identified and managed with mitigating actions and plans in place where appropriate

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery lead in ensuring that the overall programme solution integrity is maintained and external (to the programme) influences do not impact delivery timescales, budget or scope
  • When deputising for the Delivery Lead: Provide the main interface between the Senior Management (Project Sponsor) and the Project Managers. To provide input to and interpret decisions made by senior managers and give direction to the project managers including reporting programme progress to the Programme Sponsor, Steering Committee, CLT and PCB
  • Work with Programme Sponsor, Delivery Lead and stakeholders to understand strategic context and ensure adherence to Programme objectives, scope, approach and appropriate governance regime
  • Lead, manage and deliver one workstream ensuring delivery is on time, within budget and to scope
  • Manage internal and external suppliers for service or change delivery for relevant workstrand
  • Identify financial and operating risks and issues affecting the workstrand and the business, putting appropriate measures in place to effectively managed and control
  • Be a role model for project management discipline and key definer and driver of best practice
  • Applying and championing appropriate project management disciplines, ie planning, resourcing, scheduling, monitoring, reporting and risk, issue and dependency management. This should include effective management of the project through stage gates, at which lessons learned are captured and built into future plans.

  • Has proven programme, project and people management skills with a good understanding of the organisation's management structures and reporting procedures. Enjoys the confidence of senior management.
  • PRINCE2 essential
  • Must have Life Insurance experience.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder relationships at the highest level (internal & external)
  • Ability to manage high-level supplier relationships
  • High-impact influencer and negotiator
  • Expert in Project management disciplines
  • Proven experience of managing 3rd Party relationships
  • Able to contribute at a strategic level
  • Heightened awareness of market trends in Insurance and the IT industry
