System Safety Engineer - Permanent - Hampshire - GBP62,000 to GBP77,000

The Safety Manager will provide overall Safety Management Leadership while working with the MOD Customer and the Chief Engineer on the schedule of Safety activities across all delivery sites. The Safety Manager will work within the Engineering Team, but have direct responsibility to the Programme Director. The Safety Manager will participate in all Design Reviews, developing safety plans and procedures to ensure that sufficient evidence is provided to support the overall Safety Argument. The Safety Manager will also participate in all Integration and Test activities both at supplier factories and at Customer sites. The successful candidate will act as the lead Safety Engineer working with the Safety Contractors and the Engineering Team to ensure overall Clients' Safety Assurance across all Defence Lines of Development (DLODs), including developing the Safety Management Plan, Safety Management System and the Safety Case documentation with the support of the suppliers.

The Safety Manager will be the key interface with the MOD Customer for all safety matters, and to ensure the integration of the Military Aviation Authority (MAA), Release into Service Process within the overall Fusion acceptance process.

Duties will include:

  • Key interface with the MOD Customer including the Military Avation Authority (MAA) for all safety matters.
  • Ownership and delivery of the Safety Management Plan, Safety Management System and the Safety Case documentation.
  • Production and delivery of the Safety Management deliverables.
  • Support to the Fusion Integration and Test activities including factory and site acceptance activities.
  • Management of all Safety related programme operational issues.
  • Safety Management engagement with the Safety contractors and key suppliers.

Required Skills:

  • An enthusiastic self-starter with proven leadership experience in a complex system environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Safety Management processes and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the MAA Release into Service Process.
  • Proven technical ability with demonstrable relevant experience within complex, high performance integrated systems environments.
  • Familiarisation of Acceptance and the Integration of COTS based equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the production of safety case artefacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the provision of the necessary Safety evidence from supplier organisations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-company safety team, working with safety managers from supplier organisations.
  • The candidate will possess good verbal and written communication skills and work well within a team environment.
  • Team Skills/Inclusive Behaviours - ability to work collaboratively whilst collocated or distributed geographically; consensus building/team building whilst respecting diverse viewpoints.
  • Ability to attain the necessary personal security requirements (SC).
  • As the Clients' sites are dispersed across the UK and overseas, the ability to travel is essential however this role is based in Hampshire
