We have a vacancy for a Vehicle Mechanic to work within a team of seven Mechanics to ensure the efficient operation of the Services’ vehicle fleet, equipment and plant.

The successful candidate will carry out full preventative maintenance and repair of all firefighting vehicles, cars, vans, pick-ups and other ancillary vehicles, including watercraft, ensuring that all work is recorded and carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. They will also road test vehicles, carry out pre-delivery inspections, and deliver/collect vehicles around the UK. In addition the post-holder will test, service and repair firefighting and ancillary equipment to ensure statutory health and safety requirements are met and that equipment can be operated successfully by firefighters in emergency situations.

To be considered as a candidate it is essential that you meet the following criteria:

• Full City & Guilds qualification (or equivalent) for the service and repair of vehicles up to 26 tonnes.

• Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) ‘C’ class licence.

• Competent to work on diesel/petrol/LPG operated vehicles and plant.

• Able to work effectively in a team.

• Able to use initiative as required to ensure that customer requirements are met.

• A basic knowledge of 240 volt electrics would be an advantage, as would knowledge of vehicle electrics, electronic circuitry, hydraulic operations or water pressure.

The Workshop operates a 37 hour week starting at 0700 hours and finishing at 1630 hours four days per week. A rolling rota day is factored in weekly. You will be required to provide stand-by cover on a rostered basis (one week out of seven, plus occasional sickness cover) for which additional allowances are payable.
