The organisation

A Regional Director is required to join an international membership organisation that promotes and advances civil engineering around the world. They are a qualifying body, a centre for the exchange of specialist knowledge, and a provider of resources to encourage innovation and excellence in the profession worldwide.

The role

Responsible for the leadership and management of the Regional Support Team (RST), the Regional Director will have the opportunity to impact on the delivery of their strategic vision through raising the profile of civil engineering in the region and by ensuring an effective and efficient service is provided to current members.

Duties and responsibilities

- Building relationships with regional and local government to influence policy development to reflect their position;
- Constructing responses to regional consultations, in conjunction with regional experts, providing advice to regional government to influence policy;
- Engaging with regional media to raise awareness of civil engineering's contribution to society;
- Developing partnerships and schemes with a wide range of organisations to raise awareness and encouraging pre-19 students to consider a career in civil engineering;
- Ensuring effective communication with their members and maintaining ongoing membership satisfaction;
- Promoting lifelong learning and maintenance of competence by promoting the continued professional development of existing members.
- Advising and supporting individuals on routes to progress to Fellowship membership of the the organisation.
- Developing and implementing the regional Business Plan and key strategies to ensure their objectives on public voice, knowledge transfer and member communications are achieved;
- Providing leadership, direction and management of the multi-disciplinary RST to ensure the delivery of their vision;

What are they looking for?

- Applicants must be educated to degree level or equivalent. A Chartered Civil Engineer (or a broad knowledge of Civil Engineering) would be desirable, though not essential.
- Candidates will have industry experience whilst some knowledge of engineering education, training and professional development would also be desirable.
- Candidates will have previous exposure in liaising with and influencing a wide audience of people and will have significant experience in customer / client relationship management.
- Experience managing and developing a diverse team is essential, whilst experience of performance management is highly desirable.
- The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare and deliver presentations. Applicants will also be comfortable in dealing with public media briefings.
