Senior Design Manager

On behalf of our client we are looking to appoint a Senior Design Manager

Our client is one of the UK’s leading privately owned construction companies with projects in the Retail, Leisure and Commercial sectors. Due to continued growth they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Design Manager to join their team in Leeds. The ideal candidate will have experience in pre-construction and planning ideally from an Engineering or Architectural background.

Essential Skills/Knowledge/ Experience

• Knowledge of construction materials, methods and technology

• Good negotiation skills

• Excellent knowledge of planning techniques and procurement

• Delivering multiple contracts on time and on budget

• Knowledge of Health & Safety and environmental legislation and issues

• Risk management

• Strong Design skills

• Good knowledge of contracts and contract documentation

Key Responsibilities;

• To manage the design team and facilitate specialist design input into the primary design

• Produce the project specific designer agreements, scope of services and the design management plan ensuring they are agreed and fully understood by all parties.

• Produce agree and manage, a design program satisfying design, procurement and construction requirements.

• Manage the design on site with where appropriate the assistance of other site based resource implementing the design management procedures to ensure the timely production of information.

• Review the design with respect to mitigating Health and Safety issues prior to construction.

• Provide guidance to the project team on design related issues.

• Implementation of Continuous Improvement programs and innovation.

• Maintain close relationships with the customer and design organisations

The successful candidate will ideally be Degree Qualified in a Construction related discipline with excellent communication skills, ambitious with a good work ethic, a good team player, and competent in decision making and team building.
