Job Description

The Acute Services Manager will have overall responsibility for acute services including Critical Care and the Acute Admissions Ward, Night Management service and associated support services including Outreach, Resuscitation Service, Blood Transfusion Services and Acute Pain Management. The purpose of the role is to ensure systems, processes and resources are continually reviewed to support the needs of the business.

Working as a member of the Senior Nursing and multi-professional team, the post holder will facilitate and support clinical governance, service development and service improvement activities. They will ensure effective and efficient utilisation of nursing and financial resources to ensure that the departments function within funded establishment.

??To be the responsible manager for critical care services and acute admissions ward, ensuring full compliance with legislation and all relevant codes of practice.

??To promote efficient and effective service delivery of a quality that meets the needs of all service users.

??To exercise budgetary control within designated departments, assigning the hospital to meet its business objectives and to direct the business environment for profit whilst maintaining standards.

??To promote the departments and market the hospital services, seeking opportunities for service level improvements and business development.

??To drive forward service development in each area leading to and maintaining high levels of Critical Care and Acute Admission utilization.




Duties and Responsibilities

Line Manager to ICU Matron/s and overall responsibility for the service.
Directly responsible for delivery of resuscitation and outreach service in conjunction with the Intensive Care Matrons.
Responsible for the management of the hospital at night service in conjunction with the Night Manager.
Responsible for overseeing the acute pain management service, monitoring performance and improvements.
Participate in the hospital duty manager rota.
Participate in the hospital senior management on call rota.
Participate and facilitate projects as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer and Deputy Chief Nursing Officer.
To carry out other reasonable duties as required by Chief Nursing Officer or member of the Hospital Operations Board.

Registered General Nurse
Intensive Care Qualification/ Experience
ENB998 / City and Guilds 730
First line Management Course
Provide clinical leadership setting high standards of professionalism and customer service.
Meet the agreed objectives of the departments in line with the nursing and governance framework and objectives set by the Chief Nursing Officer.
Responsible for the delivery of an optimum clinical service ensuring quality standards are met for areas for responsibility.
Lead, implement and participate in clinical audit measures including action planning and delivering improvements to the service.
