Software Test Engineer - Great Shelford, Cambridge

Job Description

A Software Test Engineer is now required to join our Cambridge development team, working on our market leading financial capital modelling software. This is a new position to meet the requirements of a growing team.

In this role you will contribute to the evolutionary development of advanced analytics and decision support software across all aspects of the development life cycle. This is a varied role that will include test strategy generation, creation of manual/automated functional tests and performance tests to ensure the quality of a complex mathematical modelling tool that incorporates many technologies and frameworks.

This is an evolving role that will include:

  • Working with the product owner and business analysts to translate user stories into test cases.
  • Participating in design and development meetings in order to ensure designs and implementations are testable.
  • Participating in retrospectives at the end of each sprint.
  • Working closely with the Software Engineers to ensure that testability and best practices are built in to the code.
  • Exploratory, performance, regression testing etc.
  • Verification of fixes.
  • Specification/management of test environments.
  • Liaising with other testing teams within the company in order to share best practices.

Essential Skills

  • Passionate about testing as a career, flexible in working with a team to continually improve quality.
  • Experience of the development life cycle, with the flexibility to work from test strategy to system and component level testing.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of testing software written in .NET or Delphi, both GUI and Back End.
  • Strong analytical & mathematical skills, preferably with understanding of statistical mathematics used in numerically intensive systems.
  • Experience of writing automated tests using Scripting languages or in an Object Oriented mainstream language (C#).
  • Experience in technically testing a database driven environment with a good understanding of SQL.
  • Knowledge of UI/UX design patterns.
  • Experienced in Agile or iterative development methodologies.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.
  • Good academic background, ideally degree educated with a 1st or 2:1 in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Science.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
