Our client specialise in the design and manufacture of a range of special purpose equipment for global supply, and as a result of continued success and a planned program of strategic growth, are now seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, articulate and highly self-motivated Planning and Materials Progressor to complement their highly professional and successful team.

Based in Birmingham (although relocating to Coventry in early 2015), the successful candidate will join an established and focussed team responsible for the scheduling of contract work orders, maintaining adequate inventory levels and monitoring contract progress, as well as reviewing raw material requirements, and identifying and correcting MRP exceptions.

Working Monday - Thursday 7.30am - 4.30pm and Friday 7.30am - 12.30pm, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating manufacturing schedules in line with customer requirements, issuing work orders for stock, contract components and finished goods and reviewing the shortage report daily for action items to ensure an on-time supply for production planning as well as meeting customer delivery requirements.

You will review existing manufacturing schedules and then correct, expedite or de-expedite to bring production in line with customer requirements, and select parts for work order creation (at top and lower levels) based on material availability, labour and plant capacity, closely monitoring inventory and completing all associated transactions on work orders whilst keeping inventory levels accurate and in-balance.
Additionally you will liaise as required with the Sales, Engineering and Purchasing teams regarding inventory or technical issues and provide department management support and assistance in communicating department targets and results, and undertake training of fellow Planners to upgrade their current skill set as required.

To be considered for this varied and challenging role you will demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills and a high level of IT / computer literacy (in particular with MS Excel). It is envisaged that the successful candidate will have attained a Degree in a relevant technical or business field or demonstrate equivalent experience gained within a busy manufacturing environment.

You will possess good general knowledge of manufacturing environment / order flow and be skilled in accurate scheduling and planning of jobs through production, handling multiple tasks whilst thinking strategically and being confident to undertake proactive communication and early intervention to recognize, prevent, or minimize problems when dealing with the changing requirements of internal and external customers and balancing shop resources and labour capacity to achieve desired performance.
