An opportunity is available for an experienced Purchasing Officer to join an expanding company based in Chelmsford, Essex. Working full time on a fixed term maternity contract for 9-12 months, the successful Purchasing Officer will earn £23,000-£26,000 depending on experience, and will receive the benefit of a pension scheme and life assurance.

As Purchasing Officer you’ll take overall responsibility for the management of the purchasing function across all disciplines. Products and services must be ordered in the most cost effective, yet timely fashion achievable. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Purchasing Officer’s main responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

• Manage and review the process of the setting of safety stocks in relation to the various company contracts and to advise as to modification according to historical usage
• Set up a supplier review system compatible with our own contract commitment, to ensure that the company have best value supply allied to service and quality in line with those needs
• Liaise with other internal departments in order to provide up to date information and updates regarding products
• Ensure that systems are in place to identify any potential supply problems, and to ensure that any such problems are communicated on a timely basis to customer services/field managers
• Ensure that systems are in place to report on a timely basis receipt of direct deliveries to customer sites, so that the items can be booked into stock, issued to relevant work orders and invoices as necessary
• Ensure stock levels are monitored to assist with cash flow management, in particular, checking for incorrectly coded stock
• Constantly improve pricing, quality and service issues relating to purchases
• Manage the process of having products delivered directly to the warehouse from which they are due to be dispatched
• Carry out specific reports/investigation

The successful Purchasing Officer will have demonstrable experience of working within a purchasing role. In addition, you will possess the following skills and experience:

• Good communication and negotiation skills both written and verbal
• Able to build relationships with suppliers to ensure continuity of service during difficult periods
• Organised and keen to build and maintain excellent inter-departmental relationships
• Good standard of education A Level or equivalent level (minimum)
• Excellent IT skills (MS Office and Sage or similar ERP System)
• A clean full UK Driving licence
• Committed and driven
• Capable of working as part of a team as well as on own initiative
