Junior Power Electronics Engineer - R&D - Bristol

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in an R&D environment on Power Electronics for world leading technologies. The Power Electronics Engineer will work on R&D alongside technical specialists and motivated, creative people, to create truly different technologies in Power Electronics and Motor Drives.

Essential experience:

* Motor drive electronics including power MOSFETs, IGBTs, driver circuits/ICs and diodes (mains and low voltage)
* Understanding of device characteristics and issues with switching behaviour in real circuits
* Device selection - Interpretation of datasheets and knowledge of design methods to confidently select the lowest cost devices while achieving reliability targets
* Thermal design
* Hardware Design including power electronics, analogue hardware, microprocessors, and voltage/current sensing methods
* Low voltage and mains voltage equipment
* PCB layout
* DFMEA
* EMC
* Design and development of power electronics drive circuits from initial conception through to production implementation
* Use of modern test equipment for measurement and analysis of power electronic circuitry Knowledge of PCB design and understanding of layout issues for combined power and control circuitry
* Analytical capability including use of circuit simulation tools
* Failure analysis/problem solving capability

Desirable experience:

* Design of charging and protection systems for Li-ion batteries
* Use of dynamic motor simulation to model device losses/device rating and EMC compliance
* Awareness of issues related to embedded software
* Power supply design
* Magnetics design
* Project management (including use of planning tools)
* Assembly supplier selection
