Salary: Registered Nurses: £16.50 per hour

Student Nurses: 11.50 per hour

THE ROLE

As a Registered Nurse/Student your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting health checks, finger prick sampling, BP readings, body measurements in community settings. Communicating to patients their risk of developing a chronic condition. Helping patients to understand how lifestyle changes could reduce their health risks. Encouraging patients to commit to lifestyle changes and accept referrals to lifestyle programmes. Referring patients as necessary to GP, walk-in centres or A&E. Complying with all procedures to ensure patients receive a quality service in a non-clinical setting. Collaborating with consultants, psychologists, public health leads, commissioners and other nurses to enhance the service. Contacting patients and GP practices in the future for audit and research purposes. Understanding issues of patient confidentiality.
  • Skills and Experience

    • Great personal communication skills - energetic & empathetic. Self-starting and energetic - willing to accept direction but able to work independently. Excellent organisation skills & attention to detail. Passion & commitment to public health and improving people's health and well-being. Have provided lifestyle advice to patients with chronic conditions e.g. smoking cessation, weight loss.
    • Worked on community health check or screening programmes or enthusiastic about learning about this is desirable.
    • Ability to demonstrate awareness / understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behaviour, physical, social and welfare needs.

    Additional Information
    You must live within commutable distance of Newcastle and be willing to travel.
