Lead/Tech Lead Java Engineer - This growing established business has just had a huge cash injection of £50million to completely overall there 'current' monolithic loosely coupled eCommece system. They are moving to a swanky new offices and investing heavily in technology, people and projects. The first ( of many) new hires is a Lead/Tech Lead Java Engineer. The successful Lead/Tech Lead Java Engineer will report to the Development Manager and work close with the architect to build a new SOA base web services (SOAP and REST) platform that will underpin all their current systems.
As the Lead/Tech Lead Java Engineer you will be responsible in helping build a new team (4), help set development standards, push Agile, TDD and CI into the business and lead the team from the front in terms of hands on coding, peer reviews, Agile planning and setting goals/deadlines and helping in recommending technology solutions to the business. This is an 18 month new Java platform project, there is nothing there at the moment so you will have the opportunity to build the everything from the ground up.
I'm looking for 2 types of people for this role, either a current Lead/Tech Lead Java Engineer who is looking to move onto their next challenge OR a Senior Java Developer looking to take a set up. If you are the latter it would be helpful if you have some experience of technically leading some small project already and will have had some experience in mentoring more Junior Java developers.
Technically this is called as a backend project, building web services (Soap and Rest) , integrating APIs, and working on the core logic (Java 1.7, Spring, Jax-RS, ESB (or MQ or JMS) Hibernate, NoSQL or MySQL). It would be very beneficial if the Lead/Tech Lead Java Engineer brings with them a passion for TDD (Junit and Mockito ideally ) and Agile and the wants and desire to implement this from day 1. The Lead/Tech Lead Java Engineer should also have the ability to look at the performance of the system and look at bottlenecks and be familiar with the concepts of multi-threading and performance optimisation.
