An exciting opportunity has arisen within the national Landfill Energy Team, to operate, maintain and refurbish large spark ignition internal combustion engines and associated Landfill Gas equipment within agreed cost, time and quality parameters.

Based at their Pilsworth Power Plant, this role is a key part of our client’s engineering team, providing a vital operation and maintenance service to power generation plants in the area within their Landfill Energy Department.

They are looking for someone with a thorough working knowledge of reciprocating internal combustion engines (gas or diesel) or similar and practical experience of engine, plant, and / or process operations and diagnostics.

The ideal candidate will hold a full engineering apprenticeship or further education certificate in the field of Mechanical / electrical engineering, as well as extensive experience in a similar background.

This is a demanding role that involves working weekends, nights and bank holidays as part of their on-call rota system. It would suit a resilient and self-motivated individual who is equally happy to work unsupervised or in team.

A full driving licence is essential to the role.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • The operation, maintenance and repair of the company’s power generation equipment and ancillaries at selected sites in the Northern region.
  • To maintain (and optimise) the operational and mechanical efficiency of the sites power generation, environmental control equipment and associated plant, carrying out necessary planned maintenance and essential repairs as agreed with the Plant Supervisor and Operations Manager.
  • Ensuring that all routine and non-routine maintenance of the power generation, environmental control equipment and associated plant is carried out following the Company’s policies, best practice procedures and work instructions at all times.
  • To participate in the on-call rota system and provide out of normal operational hours cover to attend sites for unplanned breakdowns to bring plant on line with minimal downtime.
  • Liaising with the Plant Supervisor to ensure that essential spare parts and consumables are available either locally or centrally to maintain availability targets for the power generation, environmental control equipment and associated plant.

Skills / Experience:

  • A thorough working knowledge of reciprocating internal combustion engines (gas or diesel) or industrial/petrochemical plant and process maintenance.
  • City and Guilds in mechanical engineering or similar engineering discipline.
  • Practical experience of engine, plant, and / or process operations and diagnostics.
  • A working knowledge of landfill operations, and landfill gas management is highly desirable, though not essential
  • A Full driving licence is essential to the role.
