An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Service Manager to join a company that specialises in the design, manufacturing, installation, servicing, maintenance and modernisation of commercial and residential lifts and escalators.

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the maintenance operation of an area by controlling the day to day service provided to customers. They will also be required to account manage key customers and win new business in service contracts, repairs and modernisations. They will also be required to manage all direct reports and deal with HR issues that arise within the team.

Personnel Specification

Education:

- Competent secondary education with a commitment to further management studies.

- Ideally NVQ Level 3 in Lift Maintenance but not essential.

Key Skills

- Extensive practical experience in Lifts and Escalators involving Service, Installation and Repair along with previous supervisory exposure.

- Management Competence - able to adapt management style to get the best from individuals.

- Technical Expertise - Knowledge of mechanical components and electronics sufficient to understand issues relating to engineers' delivering performance to meet customers requirements.

- IT Skills - has a good grasp of Microsoft Office packages particularly Word and Excel and can work with databases.

- Interviewing Skills - able to conduct effective recruitment interviews, selecting good candidates that can do an excellent job and will fit into the company.

- Customer Focus - aims to build effective relationships with internal and external customers, gaining their trust and respect through meeting and exceeding their expectations.

General Skills

- Organising - able to orchestrate multiple activities at once, arrange information and files in a structured way and anticipate impact of related activities.

- Problem Solving - able to identify problems, break them down into smaller elements, pin point possible solutions, prioritise these different elements and construct an action plan for tackling the problem.

- Business Acumen - understands the commercial aspects of the construction industry, the impact of competition and what strategies and tactics work in this marketplace.

- Communication - excellent communicator both orally and in writing, providing clear and relevant information to others in a way that they can understand exactly the true message that is being sent. Must also be able to select the right medium to use.
