BIG LOTTERY FUND

Funding Officer

Fixed term/secondment to end March 2015

£18,500 - £27,750 pa + generous benefits

Covering: West of England (Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, North East Somerset), Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset.

This is an exciting opportunity to be the face of the UK’s largest funder in your local area. Working closely with organisations who are applying for funding, you’ll be a vital source of intelligence about local community needs.

The role

By funding good causes, the Big Lottery Fund makes a real difference to local communities all over England. You will be an important point of contact for applicants, grant holders and other stakeholders as well as being a key source of intelligence about local community’s needs.

A major challenge will be attracting high-quality funding applications that respond to key needs within a community and make good use of our limited public funds. This entails developing close working relationships with a wide variety of organisations and individuals – and brokering effective partnerships between them. You will feed intelligence into our decision-making processes to ensure we support the people and communities most in need.

The person

Success depends on a good understanding of the community and voluntary sectors, coupled with the ability to nurture productive relationships and prioritise projects based on community needs and the fund’s expectations. You will be capable of gathering excellent local knowledge and sharing it with colleagues across the organisation.

You must also be capable of working with stakeholders, analysing information, advising applicants about their projects and make recommendations and decisions about funding applications. Both well organised, and highly flexible, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working as part of a team, you will be responsible for our work in West of England (Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, North East Somerset), Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset, so having a good understanding of these areas is important.

We need to fill these roles urgently, so you should be available to start during September 2014. We would welcome applicants looking for a secondment opportunity if you have the support of your current employer. You will spend most of your time in your area, but will be expected to work from our office in our Exeter office at least 1 day per week once you have completed induction.
