Our client is currently recruiting for an experienced Operations Manager to manage the operation of a region covering the West Midlands, Nottingham and up to Halifax, ensuring that all assigned catering establishments are operated to ensure the highest standards of service and quality are achieved and consistently maintained. You will ensure that all Foodservice, Quality Assurance policies and legal specifications are adhered to in line with our Health and Safety Policy.

You will be responsible for multiple sites across this area and will need to spend at least one full day at each establishment every four weeks.

Key Responsibilities of the role:

• To analyse the total workload and plan activities so that time is managed effectively not only on an individual basis but as a team.
• To plan the day at each establishment so that the maximum time is derived to ensuring that standards of team communication, moral, control, presentation, hygiene, and training and development are being maintained.
• Aim to meet every client at least once every six weeks. These visits can and should be arranged to coincide with the diarised establishment visit day to maintain and develop strong client relations. All such meetings to be documented and confirmed with the client as such. Key outcomes to be documented for discussion with the Regional Director.
• To formulate a plan to implement our standards for every establishment for each twelve month period. Any establishment which does not lend itself to the standard package must be discussed with the Regional Director and have an alternative improvement plan prepared for prompt implementation.
• To implement national promotions and create innovative merchandising ideas designed to increase customer interest and sales.
• To agree a business plan in line with the Regional Director which will aim to increase profitability and ensure the achievement of divisional objectives.
• To liaise with each Catering Manager to prepare establishment budgets and present these to the Regional Director. These should include recommendations on cost savings as appropriate.
• To review and discuss establishment cost variance with the Regional Director and the Management Accountant. To obtain full understanding of the detail of variances to such a degree that a full explanation can be given to the client before the submission of the invoice.
• To agree with the Regional Director the annual management income required from each unit.
• To take pro-active steps in the management of the establishments to ensure full business retention.
• Produce management information in relation to group contracts on a monthly basis to both client and Regional Director.
• To identify training needs amongst all Catering Managers and arrange for those needs to be fulfilled whether by personal tuition or by attendance at an in-house training establishment. Ensure that development plans and succession plans are in place for all staff.
• To follow up all training given to Catering Managers and encourage them to implement new ideas.
• To provide support to the Sales team in securing new business in line with the balanced score card.
• Where necessary attend regular reviews with the specialist function, such as Finance, Human Resources, Nutritionist, Sales and Marketing

Key Skills and Qualifications required:

• Able to lead, manage and develop colleagues and build effective relationships, to unite, motivate and direct a team towards individual and common objectives
• Experience in managing high value, multi-site contracts within an Educational Catering environment
• Commitment to the delivery of excellent customer service and improved business performance
• Be results orientated and profit driven with a desire to increase contract portfolio
• Commercially aware of the Educational catering industry
• Able to communicate in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
• Numerate with an ability to evaluate data, identify trends and produce appropriate action plans to rectify problems
• Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and other programmes
• Possess strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
