The Job:

We require a teacher of Geography in a strong department within a South Cheshire secondary school to start in September 2014. The Geography department is part of a wider Humanities faculty who are committed to ensuring that all pupils achieve and enjoy their learning. Geography lessons enable pupils to compare and contrast their own lives with others in their own local area, in the UK as a whole and also in the wider world.Units of work examine physical, human and environmental aspects of geography and a range of teaching styles are used to enthuse and inspire pupils to achieve their potential. Pupils can choose to study GCSE Geography and currently study the AQA A Specification.

KS3 have one lesson of geography a week and KS4 currently have 3 lessons a week

Year 8 China Tourism

Year 9 Environmental Issues The UK and Europe

Year 10 Changing Urban Environments Rivers

Year 11 Controlled assessment Glaciation

The School:

This school is part of a federation of schools and local businesses who work together to improve the educational outcomes for pupils and families in Cheshire. This includes a secondary school Trust partnership as well as two primary schools. The school is a fully inclusive school. The school are an 11 - 19 high school with a thriving and successful sixth form. The school also run degree courses for adults in the sixth form centre in partnership with Skills solutions.

The Child:

The students are challenged to reach their potential and the department employs a range of teaching styles both in and outside the classroom. Fieldwork is major part of learning and encourage pupils to attend trips both in and out of school time. Current developments surround several trips for each year group which are focused on the curriculum. Recent trips have included a residential to Castleton for year 9 and a weekend at Ghyll Head for year 10.

ICT plays a major role in the teaching and resources such as Google Earth are embedded into the lessons. The department are also developing several mapping resources (Geographical Information Systems) for pupils to use in their classwork.
