Linux Engineer Become DevOps Guru ! Puppet, Chef, London £50,000 - £60,000

One of the most rapidly expanding technology driven, global eCommerce organisations in Central London, require a Linux Engineer to eventually head up their entirely new Devops division within the business.

As the owner of all software release and configuration processes, your position will be critical to the efficiency of their IT function and the effective delivery of software in a fully agile environment.

You will eventually form an entirely new function within the team and have complete responsibility for driving automation of deployment, configuration and release processes by addressing bottlenecks in the development process, developing scripts to increase efficiency, auditing and refining tools used to deploy new applications, and evangelizing the importance of a "DevOps culture" within the department.

Initially the role will focus on addressing immediate release of applications then gradually evolve to focus on performance and improvement of release processes, including the use of continuous integration using Jenkins and infrastructure automation using Salt.

So as long as you have some experience in continuous integration this could be the perfect job for you. You don't need to be a guru (although it would be nice!) but some experience coupled with enthusiasm will allow you to grow into this role.
You'll need to have knowledge of configuration management with Puppet, Chef or a similar tool. Again, some commercial experience will be sufficient as you will get the full support and training to get you to the standard in order to drive the new department forward.

In the short and medium term, you will be trained in the use Salt and Openstack and allow you to develop your knowledge of CI tools, virtualization and auto-scaling technology.

They offer a truly collaborative, open and rewarding work environment based on empowerment and mutual respect in a culture driven by making software and release better.

I have a full job specification so please send your up to date CV to victoria.goodchild@fpit.co.uk for further information.
