Due to an expansion in its services an opportunity is available for highly motivated Community Support Workers to join a Not for Profit organisation that provides support for adults with learning disabilities. Based in Preston, Lancashire, and working within its surrounding district, the successful Community Support Workers will earn £6.61-£7.50 per hour depending on the project they are working on, and the hours worked and £31.07 per sleep over.

If you have high standards of work and high expectations for the people you support, you will feel at home among a team of like-minded individuals. As a valued member of the charity’s established Supported Living and outreach team, the Community Support Workers will work alongside individuals with learning disabilities and associated health needs, such as Dementia and Mental Health, supporting them on a day-to-day basis. As such, general support responsibilities of the Community Support Workers will include:

• Develop and maintain already established relationships and friendships
• Encourage individuals to build and develop relationships with those in their community to decrease isolation.
• Support them to find new hobbies and interests, and try out new activities
• Meet their religious and cultural needs by helping them attend their place of worship
• Help them make informed choices around a healthy lifestyle
• Shop for clothes and food, and prepare meals as required
• Keep their house clean and in good order, and go their laundry
• To treat all people with the utmost respect and dignity, providing an environment that is free for bullying and intimidation
• Uphold confidentiality throughout your employment

The successful Community Support Workers will have a ‘can do’ attitude and a great sense of humour. You will be patient, sensitive and a good listener. Ideally you will have experience of supporting people with learning disabilities (either paid or voluntary) and possess the following skills and experience:

• Experience of supporting individuals with complex needs (either in a paid capacity or a voluntary capacity) is an advantage
• Flexibility to work days, evening, weekend, Bank holidays and sleep over’s
• Driven by, and share person centred values, placing the person you support at the centre of everything you do
• Mature and able to use your initiative
• Experience of "home-making" being able to clean and cook
• Good literacy and numeracy skills
• Enjoy spending time with the people you support - so shared interests with holistic therapies, singing, arts and crafts, visiting tea shops, music, sport, cooking, baking and an interest in animals would be an advantage
• Possess a full clean driving licence and capable of driving a car

If you are interested in becoming a Community Support Worker please submit your CV along with a covering letter highlighting your experience.
