Problems using the site - answers
Q. When I apply for a job, how will you contact me?
A. fish4 will not contact you directly, unless you set up a myfish4 email alert. However you may wish to contact the advertiser of the job you have applied for directly to confirm receipt of your application. In most cases the advertiser will contact you by email or telephone, provided this is supplied on your CV
Q. How can I add my CV to the fish4jobs site? Is there a database for recruiters?
A. By using our free CV service, you can create your own online CV to use when applying for jobs featured on fish4jobs. You are also able to print the CV for use elsewhere
Go to: http://www.fish4.co.uk/iad/cv/managecv
When applying for vacancies, you are able to either use your fish4 format CV or your own format (ie Word.doc)
We have now opened up our CV database to employers so that they can search for potential candidates. We are very serious about protecting your privacy and your CV will only be made searchable to prospective employers should you choose to make it searchable
Q. I'm looking for a job outside of the UK, how can I go about finding one?
A. We only advertise positions in the United Kingdom
Q. Can you give me advice on how to find a job?
A. At any time there are in the region of 40,000 vacancies advertised on fish4jobs. fish4 is not a recruitment firm as such and the only advice is that which is offered on the site
The best way to get details of new vacancies, as they are published on the site, is to register with us
To register, all you need to do is:
- Go to www.fish4jobs.co.uk
- Click on the myfish4 link near the top of the page
- Click on the 'Register' link
- Fill out the registration form
- Click on Set up an email alert, Create email alert, for your selected site
- Complete the form
- Click on 'save'
Q. I can't see the 'more details' button on your adverts, is it my browser?
A. There should be a 'more details' link next to every advert. If you have any firewalls or security software installed (E.g. Norton Personal Firewall), it is possible that the software may have Ad blocking enabled and can hide these links and images.
If so, it may be necessary to adjust your settings. Steps to currently resolve this are:
Option 1 - Turn off the Ad blocking:
Open Norton Personal Firewall by double clicking on the icon in the system tray, there is a tab / option called 'ad blocking' - Click on this and click on 'turn off'. Close down all your browser windows - restart Internet Explorer and the site should then show all links.
Option 2 - Configure Ad blocking to enable fish4 to the list of sites:
Open Norton Personal Firewall by double clicking on the icon in the system tray, There is a tab / option called ad blocking - Click on this and click on 'configure' - Go to 'advanced' and click on it - Click add site and enter www.fish4.co.uk and press ok - Find www.fish4.co.uk in the list and click on the Add... button under the add blocking tab - Type in 'adid' and change Block to Permit - press ok.
Close down all your browser windows - restart Internet Explorer and the site should then show all links. This has been tested on Norton Personal Firewall Version 8.0.0.64 and works correctly after configuring Fish4.
Q. How do I unsubscribe from myfish4 / remove my information from the site?
A. If you want to suspend or delete your email alerts, you can do this when logged into your myfish4 account. Follow the steps outlined under the 'email alerts' option on the myfish4 site.
Alternatively, if you go to the bottom of any of the myfish4 emails you have received, you will see the sentence: 'If you don't want to receive details of any more results matching this search click here to deactivate this service'. By clicking on the highlighted link, you can automatically unsubscribe to the email alert
If you would like your information completely removed from the system, and unsubscribe completely from myfish4, you need to email customersupport@fish4.co.uk and they will remove your details as soon as possible from the site
Q. How do I add an image to my car ad?
A. You can add up to 12 images to your car ad.
- Simply log into Myfish4, click on 'My adverts', then go to your advert and click on 'Amend pictures'.
- Once you have browsed for the image file you wish to add and clicked on 'open', ensure you click the orange 'save in advert' button to add it.
- A thumbnail image should then appear if it has been successfully added. Repeat the process to add multiple images.
Q. When I search for a location on fish4homes I get the message "Sorry, we are unable to find a location that matches your criteria. Please amend and try again"
A. If the location you have entered has not been recognised, try an alternative location, such as a postcode or town. You should also check the spelling of the location you've entered, because our search engine doesn't search for words 'similar to' the one you've provided. If the location is still not recognised, please email customersupport@fish4.co.uk with the full location you are trying to search for
Q. Why can't I specify ownership type in the advance search page (and when setting up an email alert) - why can't I do this anymore?
A. In order to provide you with as many relevant adverts as possible the ownership type filter has been removed. This is because many adverts are uploaded from Newspapers and they do not always specify the ownership type. Please be assured that we are constantly striving to improve the site and the quality of our adverts and hope to re-introduce this searching option as soon as possible
Q. Why are there so many pop-up adverts on the fish4 site?
A. fish4 services have, like most commercial media environments, a number of advertising positions that enable advertisers to present offers and branding to fish4's users
To fish4, this advertising represents a part of its overall revenue structure. Naturally, we regularly review the effectiveness, or intrusion, of our advertising in the same way that all commercial media has to. This is particularly important for a company like fish4, which is exposed to a wide variety of new media and advertising devices
We do monitor feedback and limit our creative adverts to a minimum of 1 or absolute maximum of 2 adverts per browser session
Q. I am trying to add my CV but can’t as I need a valid UK postcode, why is this?
A. Currently we can only accept CV’s from UK residents
Q. Why don't all the properties have full details and photos?
A. While fish4homes encourages all our agents to provide us with as much information as possible, not all agents are able to. Sometimes, an agent might want to post a newly available property before they had an opportunity to take photographs or prepare a full description. If you want more information on a property you have seen on fish4homes we recommend that you contact the agent directly.
Why don't you recognise the location I typed in?
A. The most common reason for this is misspellings. Double check your location to make you spelled the place name correctly, or entered the postcode correctly. If you believe a place name should be recognised and it is not, please contact us.
How can I upload my Word CV to your site in one step?
A. This CV is carefully structured so that recruiters can easily search for candidates that suit their needs.
It is therefore, not possible to add your own, existing CV document to our database.
You may wish to copy and paste the information from your Word CV into the relevant sections.
When applying for Job vacancies you are, however, able to either use the fish4 CV or your own format (eg. Word.doc)
By using our free CV Service you can:
- Store and edit your CV and save time when applying for jobs.
* Let the perfect job find you - allow your CV to be searchable by recruiters (optional).
When I click on 'Apply for this job now' and send my application, I receive the message "The email address you have entered is not valid. Please amend", but my email address is correct.
A. This may be because the advert that you refer to contains an e-mail address that is not valid (not yours). Please check to see if there are any other contact details such as a telephone number , address or a link to the recruiters website. If there is no other way of applying, email us the adfinder code for this advert. This will enable us to investigate.
I am receiving sales calls from companies other than fish4cars after advertising on your site
A. It is testimony to the effectiveness and popularity of our site that a large number of other companies will use it to scour for sales leads. Some will tell you that they have buyers lined up who want your car, but you will need to pay to get their details. This is very rarely true and we would advise you always check the validity of any statements before paying any money to any caller. Unfortunately there is very little we can do about this as the site is in the public domain and we cannot restrict who looks at it or who contacts our customers. However, you might want to consider adding a line to your advertisement stating ‘no canvassers please’ or simply asking sales companies to stop calling and to remove your details from their database. Ultimately you could bar all sales calls to either your home or mobile numbers by registering with the Telephone Preference Service at the following address www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ However, you will need to consider that registering with this service will stop all sales companies from calling you - even those that you may want to hear from!
